  • Why Furniture? | In the late 1980s, government-mandated recycling programs were in full swing. As the use of plastic in the U.S. grew, the need to transform the overabundance of recycled plastic into something new was greater than ever. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic, in particular, is extremely durable and weather resistant. Outdoor furniture was the perfect application.
  • On-Site Recycling | Genuine POLYWOOD lumber is made of recycled and reusable plastics in a circular, 99% waste-free process. And in the future, your furniture can be recycled back to where it started. Since our material is infinitely recyclable, we can reprocess production scrap back into lumber and give it another chance to shine.
  • All-Weather Durability | POLYWOOD furniture is built to withstand all four seasons and a range of climates including hot sun, snowy winters, salt spray, and heavy winds. Unlike traditional wood furniture, POLYWOOD will never need to be sanded, painted, or stained.

Highlights

Back in 1990, we were the first to create outdoor furniture from recycled plastics. Our team continues to innovate and move toward creating even more sustainable designs, always with transparent production practices. "Made with genuine POLYWOOD lumber" is a brand promise to deliver furniture that’s built to last and consciously crafted in the USA.

The beginning of our story may sound familiar—POLYWOOD was founded in a garage by two high school friends with a great idea. But it's really our founders' original mission of stewardship (and pushing the envelope of sustainable design) that sets us apart and remains at our core today.

Supplies Needed
Dry vacuum cleaner
Mild dish soap
5-gallon plastic bucket
Soft-bristle brush
Washcloth
(Optional) Liquid bleach

Instructions
Quickly remove loose dirt and debris with the dry vacuum.
Mix the dish soap and warm water in the bucket.
(Optional step) To clean and sanitize, pour in a bit of bleach. We recommend 1 part bleach to 2 parts water.
Use a washcloth to apply the soapy water to the lumber and let it sit for a few minutes.
Scrub the surfaces using the soft-bristle brush to loosen any dirt or debris.
Rinse with clean water and let your furniture air-dry.

Tip: Wear chemical-resistant gloves if you plan to use bleach.

Tip: For a natural bleach alternative, try undistilled white vinegar and baking soda.
